The Wines: A Traditional Box of Elegance
This release includes some of our favorite Cabernet Sauvignons, Syrahs, and Pinot Noir. These are stunning wines that are ready to drink or will reward with time in the cellar. The 2021 vintage has both muscle and restraint, built to age gracefully, which is why we kept these wines under wraps for four years before letting them out into the wild.

This release is packed with 94 and 95-point wines. We’ve never been in the business of chasing 100-point wines. That game usually rewards sheer power, sky-high alcohol, and bottles that knock you over before you finish the first glass. We’re after something different: elegance, finesse, and a sense of place you can taste. Critics seem to like it too, with plenty of 94s and 95s in this release, but that’s just a bonus.

Recent Praise for Gramercy Cellars
“If you look at the collection of Washington wines in my own cellar, Gramercy tops the list.” -Patrick Comiskey, Wine Writer, Critic, and Author of American Rhone. Article HERE.

“For years, Gramercy has been making some of the finest Rhones and Rose wines in Washington State. These wines embody structure and poise, with good richness and varietal character.” -Owen Bargreen, Wine Critic

We’re deeply grateful for your continued support. As the wine industry navigates great uncertainty, every one of you makes a difference. Thank you for being part of the Gramercy family. We’re proud to share these wines with you.

All the best,

2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley

Dark cherries and kirsch lead the way, supported by silky tannins and a medium body that carries into a long, dusty finish with dried herbal tones. The beautiful 2021 Cab Sauv includes 4% Merlot and was aged for 22 months in 34% new French oak. Washington’s Cabernet vineyards continue to amaze us, producing wines with striking aromatics, structure, and depth.

“…from a selection of high-quality vineyards such as Phinny Hill, Dionysus, and Bacchus. Juicy dark cherry and plum ride alongside moderate, fine-tuned tannins, with a medium-bodied depth to the mid-palate that sings in currant, dried herb, and tobacco leaf.” – 94 Pts, Jeb Dunnuck

2021 Cabernet Sauvignon “Phinny Hill Vineyard”

Phinny Hill Vineyard produces Cabernet that’s serious and structured, yet undeniably elegant. This 100% Cab Sauv is powerful but poised, with intense aromatics. Supple tannins and bright acidity frame vibrant red fruit on the palate, layered with warm spice and sagebrush. It’s where Old World finesse meets New World vitality in all the right ways.

“…defined by its elegance. Bright in red fruit, the acidity sings, freshening the supple tannins that are already well-resolved. With two years in French oak, just 33% new, the wine has a subtle spice character of clove, nutmeg, and black pepper, and is powerfully elegant and lengthy on the finish.” – 94 Pts, Jeb Dunnuck

2021 Pinot Noir “Sojeau Vineyard”

Our love for Pinot Noir led us to the Eola-Amity Hills in the Willamette Valley, where Sojeau Vyd stood out for its vibrancy and complexity. The 2021 bursts with bright red fruit, layered with earthy notes of forest floor, morel mushroom, and a whisper of spice. Elegant yet structured, it’s lifted by firm tannins and racing acidity. An expressive Pinot that shines now and promises even more with time.

“Taking a Syrah-like approach to the winemaking of the Pinot Noir, with gentle extraction and lees contact, it is elegant, with 50% whole-cluster adding wildness and structure. Floral elements of violet and candied licorice accent a light-bodied core of strawberry, cardamom, and dried herb.” – 94 Pts, Jeb Dunnuck

2020 Syrah Walla Walla

Combining Syrah from the Rocks with fresh, higher-elevation hillside fruit creates a wine of power and beauty. Intended to be an everyday drinker, it is one of the best Syrah values in Washington and beyond. Co-fermented with 3% Viognier in concrete at 70% whole cluster and aged in neutral oak puncheons.

“The components, Holy Roller, Les Collines, and Forgotten Hills, are all first class [and] yield a finished wine that is emblematic of the Walla Walla character. It’s juicy, tangy, spicy and youthful, with citrus, rhubarb, strawberry and blood orange as well as more typical hints of tobacco and pepper.” – 92 Pts, Paul Gregutt

2021 Syrah “Holy Roller Vineyard” MTA Exclusive

Holy Roller Vineyard delivers classic Rocks character with savory, earthy, and wild notes, wrapped in an elegant, velvet-textured frame and balanced by mouth-watering acidity. True to Gramercy’s style, this wine channels power through restraint, freshness, and finesse. Wine Club Exclusive.

“The 2021 Syrah Holy Roller is the producer’s spin on The Rocks District, co-fermented with 5% Viognier. Made in a food-friendly, light-bodied style, it spent 21 months in 9% new French oak (mostly 500-liter puncheon) with 45% whole-cluster inclusion. Juicy, tart red fruit rides a delicate frame of tension and lifted acidity.” – 95 Pts, Jeb Dunnuck

It’s hard to believe how quickly time flies. We launched Gramercy in 2005 and watching this winery evolve has been nothing short of incredible. I truly believe we’ve continued to refine everything we do—from farming and winemaking to hospitality and telling the story of this incredible winery and region. What started as a dream has become a reality, and for that, I’m beyond grateful.

But another reality we can’t ignore is that the wine business is changing. You may have seen the reports—American wineries are facing unprecedented challenges. The reasons are endless, and unfortunately, I agree with much of the analysis. Now more than ever, Washington and all American wineries need support.

So, I’m making a request. If you love great wine, support the Washington wineries that make it. Tell your friends about Gramercy and other Walla Walla producers. Order Washington wines at restaurants. Better yet—come visit us in Walla Walla! This is an extraordinary region, one I want to see thriving for generations to come.

And now, let’s talk about this release—some of my absolute favorite wines we produce. Time to join our wine club if you love Cab Franc!

The Wines: An Exceptional Spring Release
The 2021 vintage in Washington was shaped by warmth, delivering wines of exceptional concentration, structure, and balance. This lineup embodies everything we love about Gramercy—precision, complexity, and a deep sense of place.

We’re incredibly grateful for your support. We look forward to raising a glass with you soon—whether at the winery, on the road, or around the table with friends and family.

All the best,

2021 Mourvèdre “L’Idiot du Village”

$48 Retail : $40.80 MTA Wine Club

Once considered a wine geek’s grape, Mourvèdre thrives at Olsen Vineyard, where it showcases the earthy complexity of Bandol while maintaining a distinctive red fruit profile. Bridging the gap between light and full-bodied, this versatile chameleon shines as a refreshing summer time companion to charcuterie or a cozy winter pairing with braised beef stew.

“Always one of the finest editions of this varietal in the state, the 2021 [L’Idiot] has a pinch of Carignan blended in. Despite being translucent in the glass, this has beautiful depth and weight, with a glorious core of red fruits that parade with blood orange zest, seaweed, white pepper dusted bacon.” – 95 Pts, Dr. Owen Bargreen

2021 Syrah “Lagniappe” Red Willow Vineyard

$65 Retail : $55.25 MTA Wine Club

Coming from Red Willow Vineyard, the 2021 Lagniappe Syrah finds us blending the older and younger blocks at the site. This new world style Syrah is a powerhouse of dark purple fruits, spice, and earthiness with mid-palate intensity and aromatic complexity. Bright acidity, rocking tannins, and a very long finish. This is a stunning wine that will evolve for 15+ years.

“Charcuterie and black raspberry notes mingle well with lavender and shades of dark rose petals, with smoky accents on the nose. The palate shows downright awesome flavor range, richness and bright underlying tension. Enjoy this beauty now and over the next ten-plus years.” – 95 Pts, Dr. Owen Bargreen

2021 Syrah “Forgotten Hills Estate Vineyard”

$65 Retail : $55.25 MTA Wine Club

The 2021 Forgotten Hills Syrah, from our 24-year-old estate vines, is the darkest and most concentrated expression of this wine yet. This old world Syrah is salty and fresh on the palate. Vibrant acidity lifts its plush texture, leading to a long, lingering finish. Even in a warm vintage, Forgotten Hills is all about elegance and delicate aromatics.

“[A] small amount of Rocks District Syrah blended in. The faintest rocky stone character marks the nose alongside umami, allspice-dusted black fruits and suggestions of Nori with white peppercorns. The palate is a total knockout in terms of flavor range and bright underlying acidity. This has to be the one of the finest editions of this wine yet.” – 95 Pts, Dr. Owen Bargreen

2021 Gramercy Estates

$72 Retail : $61.20 MTA Wine Club

Each year, the “Estates” is blended from the best eight barrels from our estate vineyards. The palate guides the final blend entirely with this year being 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The 2021 is an expressive wine bursting with red currant, raspberry, chocolate, and Mexican oregano while layering in caramel and espresso. Full-bodied and velvety, this cellar-worthy wine rewards both patience and immediate enjoyment.

“This warm vintage edition of the Gramercy Estates [is] lush and inviting on the mouth, delivering pencil lead and menthol flavors that mingle well with a generous core of dark fruits.” – 94 Pts, Dr. Owen Bargreen

There’s something deeply meaningful about savoring a beautiful bottle of wine, and it’s my honor to present an exclusive allocation of our flagship 2021 Reserve Syrah “John Lewis” and 2021 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. These wines represent the heart of Gramercy Cellars.

2021 Vintage Overview
The 2021 vintage in Washington was marked by warmth, resulting in wines of exceptional concentration and balance. With historically low yields, the smaller fruit delivered a rare harmony of power and elegance, showcasing ripe flavors, vibrant structure, and balanced tannins.

2021 John Lewis Syrah
The 2021 is not only one of the finest expressions of John Lewis since its inaugural 2006 vintage, but it also stands shoulder to shoulder with the greatest wines of the Northern Rhône—an extraordinary achievement in elegance, complexity, and precision.

2021 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Awarded 97 points by Owen Bargreen, this powerhouse Cabernet is a testament to distinction, longevity, and the unique terroir of Washington.

– Greg Harrington

2021 Syrah “John Lewis” Reserve

This Syrah is a testament to Walla Walla’s finest terroir, sourced from Les Collines Vineyard (93%) and Forgotten Hills Vineyard (7%). Les Collines’ mid-slope Block 46 delivers the hallmark elegance and structure that define this wine, while Forgotten Hills contributes a distinct vibrancy.

The 2021 John Lewis Syrah is a wine that belongs in every collector’s cellar.

Owen Bargreen: 96 Points
“[E]xudes class with loganberry compote, wet stone and dried herbs on the nose that combine with suggestions of smoked brisket. The palate comes off fresh and inviting with serious texture and underlying verve.”

2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Highlighting the depth and diversity of Washington’s vineyards by blending 97% Cabernet Sauvignon from Bacchus (68%) and Phinny Hill (29%) with 3% Petit Verdot for our Octave Estate. These renowned sites bring complexity, structure, and balance to a wine that reflects the pinnacle of Gramercy’s winemaking.

Owen Bargreen: 97 Points
“The chiseled and muscle-bound 2021 Gramercy Cellars ‘Reserve’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a burly rendition of this wine that… shows off dense dark fruits on the nose, with milk chocolate, garrigue and pencil lead, alongside loamy soil accents. The palate shows some serious power and finesse — an iron fist in velvet glove. Wait on this beauty for at least another year.”

As we unveil our Fall Release wines, we’re thrilled to share that 2024 marks our 20th year crafting wines in Walla Walla. It’s been an incredible journey, and Greg’s reflected on the early days of Gramercy in a newsletter at the end of this email.

Now, on to the exciting part—our new release features a few long-awaited favorites, and they’re absolutely stunning. Visit us this fall to taste the new line-up!

A note on the 2020 vintage in Washington for those with doom-scrolling tendencies. Should I be afraid of the smoke in 2020? Bottom line: no. First of all, not all areas or vineyards were affected by smoke. Most smoke damage was very late in the season. We were very fortunate at Gramercy to only have a couple of small blocks affected in any way. I mean, how much Petit Verdot does anyone really need?

Most importantly, we scrutinized, discussed, evaluated, and tested these wines more than any vintage in the history of Gramercy. We painstakingly went through every single barrel time and time again. And as a result, these are among the most outstanding wines we have ever released. They are stunning examples of what we do in Washington State. I hope you enjoy these wines as much as I enjoy presenting them.

Check out our Instagram page (@gramercycellars) for more thoughts on these wines in the coming weeks. And – we are looking to expand our Instagram game. If there are subjects about anything wine related that you would like to see, shoot us an email and we will make the videos happen!

As always, thank you so much for your support. I look forward to seeing you in Walla Walla or at an event soon.

– Greg Harrington

2021 Grenache “The Third Man”

$48 Retail : $40.80 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: The 2021 Third Man is a masterpiece, opening with vibrant red and black fruit—cranberry, huckleberry, blackberry, and plum—layered with notes of salty jerky and white pepper. The nose is juicy and fresh, with a light yet rich structure. Herbal and savory on the palate, this wine is beautifully polished and balanced. It’s the best Third Man yet, combining elegance with boldness—a must-try for Grenache lovers.

“Pure and lithe, the 2021 ‘The Third Man’ is nearly all Grenache (77%) with small portions Syrah and Mourvèdre. Gorgeous red cherry and red raspberry flavors combine with shades of Provencale herbs, orange zest and damp soils on the palate. The silky and refined mouthfeel really adds to the enjoyment. A total show-stopper, with plenty of depth, weight and tension, enjoy this beautiful wine now and over the next ten plus years. Drink 2024-2034.” – 95 Pts, Dr. Owen Bargreen

2020 Syrah “Les Collines Vineyard”

$65 Retail : $55.25 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: Elegant floral aromatics, bright fruit, refined structure, and a showcase of the vineyard’s signature lavender and purple flower profile. Bright blackberry notes complemented with allspice and cardamom. A mineral edge of slate and black pepper adds complexity. On the palate, it’s more plush than expected, with sneaky, firm tannins and a touch of drying stem character. Herbal and complex, this Syrah surprises with its depth and Pinot Noir-like structure.

“Restraint and balance are this elegant wine’s keywords. The Syrah’s donut peach, cassis and blood orange juice aromas are just the beginning. The first sip yields a raspberry jam flavor. The second sip reveals pumpkin seeds that have been roasted and drizzled with sea salt. The long finish reveals a touch of espresso. You can look forward to velvety tannins and elevated acidity.” – 94 Pts, Wine Enthusiast

2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley

$60 Retail : $51 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: The 2020 offers a classic Cabernet profile, with red fruit and flowers, spice, tobacco and cocoa leading the way. Elegance over power, with dusty soil and a fresh, balanced profile. Medium-bodied with complex layers, the finish builds gracefully. Notes of dried herbs—Herbes de Provence and oregano—add a savory dimension, with a hint of green freshness. This Cabernet is everything it should be—refined, with a touch of grilled shishito pepper and soy. Elegance and length define this vintage.

“The 2020 Gramercy Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon from Columbia Valley is a masterfully crafted blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot, aged for 22 months in 18% new French oak. The nose opens with rich aromas of blackberries, cassis, scorched earth, tobacco leaves, dried potpourri, and sandalwood. On the palate, moderate-plus tannins and elevated acidity provide excellent structure, while the black fruit and spice-driven finish adds depth and complexity.” – 94 Pts, International Wine Report

$60 Retail : $51 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: The 2020 Holy Roller Syrah is umami-driven, spicy, and deep with black and green olive notes. The aromatics are powerful, showcasing red and black fruits with floral undertones. Plush and refined on the palate, with layers of flavor that seem to go on forever. The balance of firm tannins and bright acidity adds structure, making this wine a perfect expression of the Rocks District’s unique terroir.

“The 2020 Gramercy Cellars Syrah from the Walla Walla Valley is a captivating blend of 96% Syrah with a touch of Viognier, aged for 20 months in all neutral French oak. With 32% whole cluster fermentation, this wine reveals complex aromas of black plums, boysenberries, grilled ribs, black olive tapenade, scorched earth, and pink peppercorn. Earthy and deep, it offers a layered and textured palate, making it both intriguing and highly drinkable now or over the next 8-10 years.” – 95 Pts, International Wine Report

2020 Cabernet Sauvignon “Phinny Hill Vineyard” MTA

$65 Retail : $55.25 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: The 2020 Phinny Hill Cab is all about dark fruit and depth. Red and black currant, cedar, and graphite dominate, with earthy notes of gravel and fresh herbs—rosemary, sage, and thyme. There’s a hint of tomato leaf and cigar, followed by dark chocolate and a touch of vanilla and baking spice. This is the darkest, most intense Phinny to date, with medium+ acidity and tannins culminating in massive potential for long-term cellaring. An Old World-style wine of power.

“The 2020 Gramercy Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Phinny Hill’ from Columbia Valley is a beautifully structured wine, aged for 22 months in 38% new French oak. Pouring a deep purple core with a blue-tinted rim, this Cabernet offers layered aromas of boysenberries, black plums, sweet licorice, toasted coffee beans, and herbs de Provence. On the palate, the wine delivers a spicy finish with grippy tannins and moderate-plus acidity, creating a harmonious balance between its rich fruit and savory notes.” – 95 Pts, International Wine Report

2019 Pinot Noir “Sojeau Vineyard” MTA

$60 Retail : $51 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: Ripe red raspberry and mountain huckleberry, layered with wild red berries and cherry liqueur, delicately balanced with dark and herbal notes. Earthy tones of forest floor and mushroom blend with a subtle salinity and a whisper of oak and vanilla. The palate is fresh and bright yet grounded with savory earthiness. Structured and firm with an impressively long finish, this wine balances power with finesse—seriously good.

“Coming from the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, this delivers plenty of concentration considering the coolness of the vintage. Rich red cherry and red currants parade with baking spices and crushed mint, with freshly tilled salty soils on the palate. Showing good weight and length, enjoy over the next ten plus years to come. Drink 2024-2034.” – 93 Pts, Dr. Owen Bargreen

A Reflection on 20 Years

As I sit and write this, I can’t help but reminisce about those early days in 2005. Sommeliers didn’t really make wine back then, and my boss/partner at the restaurant company wasn’t shy about calling me a “dumb s***” for leaving. He meant it in the most endearing way possible. Kind of…

Pretty much everyone thought I was crazy. Sure, I had passed the Master Sommelier exam, but that didn’t mean I knew how to make wine. I arrived with just a bag of clothes, two vineyard contracts, a shared space in a new winery, a couple of hot tub-looking steel fermentation tanks, a rental car, and a room in a questionable motel.

And damn, was I naive. Here are a few things I wish I’d known before starting Gramercy*:

I should have bought a truck for the first harvest—it’s like being a cowboy without a horse.

Making wine in designer jeans wasn’t the cool look I thought it was.

The New York “I’m too busy to talk to anyone” attitude doesn’t fly in small town Walla Walla. You say hi, good morning, maybe, have a conversation. Thanks for that “talking to” Norm and JF. Still relearning this one occasionally.

Even if you think you are a famous sommelier, your coworkers will give you crap when you hit the winery walls with the forklift – multiple times.

Taste the wine dummy. That’s all that matters. And sometimes the testing equipment is broken.

*Full stories and more available at the winery. Come on by and have a glass of wine.

There are a thousand other things I didn’t know. But what I did have was something invaluable—a valley filled with generous people who helped me make this crazy dream a reality. They showed me what I didn’t know, learning to make wine that belongs on the table with the best in the world. Over the past 20 years, that group has grown to include thousands of incredible people from all over the world who are part of our wine club and support us year after year.

This fall release is about more than just the wines—it’s about celebrating the milestones that have shaped our journey. It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since we started this adventure, and none of it would have been possible without the support of so many. We’re also celebrating Brandon’s 15th year with Gramercy. His friendship and partnership have been instrumental in making Gramercy what it is today. And, of course, we can’t forget that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Walla Walla AVA. A huge thank you to the old-timers who had the vision—or delusion—to plant grapes in the wheat fields and apple orchards, make wine in barns or garages, and believe that Walla Walla could stand among the best.

Looking ahead, I’m excited about the future of Gramercy Cellars and the next 20 years. I can never fully express my thanks and appreciation to everyone who has made Gramercy Cellars a reality. To our mailing list members, thank you for being an essential part of our journey. Your support has allowed us to pursue our passion and create wines of which we are incredibly proud.

I am incredibly excited to announce the release of our Spring 2024 MTA wines! I must say, I have never been more proud of our wines. After tasting these wines for this release, I reflected and realized what an exceptional MTA allocation it truly is. This spring release features three wines from our estate vineyards, a wine from the first Syrah planted in Washington State, and a 100% varietal Mourvèdre sourced from one of the finest vineyards beyond Bandol. These are incredible wines that I will be drinking at home for a long time.

2020 Syrah “Lagniappe” Red Willow Vineyard

$65 Retail : $55.25 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: Classic Red Willow vintage. Red fruit dominates. Raspberry, Bing cherry accented with a hint of green herbal components. Sage, anise, and tarragon. Hints of seared meat and charcuterie. Balanced and very fresh. Bright acidity and round tannins that linger into a very long finish. This is a stunning wine that will evolve for 15+ years.

“Spicy and perfumed with red-toned fruits and rosy florals lifted by a hint of camphor. It’s silky-smooth and round on the palate, with savory wild berries carried across a core of brisk acidity. The 2020 finishes with medium length and classically dry, leaving a staining of primary concentration and traces of salted licorice.” – 94 Pts, Vinous

2020 Syrah “Forgotten Hills Estate Vineyard”

$65 Retail : $55.25 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: True to form Forgotten Hills Syrah – saline, iron, and blood. Red fruit and purple flowers. Sushi Nozawa style nori. Fresh charcuterie, i.e., coppa or soppressata. Green herbs – rosemary, thyme, sage. Black pepper and granite. As it opens, lots of rock and earth with a salty element. On the palate, very fresh, with medium+ acid. Firm tannins. Savory and elegant. We will be drinking a lot of this. It might be the Syrah of the vintage for us.

“[A] blend of lavender-tinged blackberries, dark earth, & wild herbs. … lifted in feel, with ripe red & blue fruits carried across a juicy core of acidity. It finishes remarkably fresh & lightly tannic, leaving a slightly bitter tinge that punctuates the experience nicely.” – 93 Pts, Vinous

2020 Gramercy Estates

$72 Retail : $61.20 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: Walla Walla Cabernet, yes! Red fruits dominate. Cola, cassis, blackberry, cedar, and pencil lead. Love that Walla Walla complexity and identity. Herbal as usual. Gravel, stone, and mineral. Amazing acid. Dark, intensely black, and chocolate on the palate. Dusty, like the old Napa Cabs from Rutherford. Medium+ acid with firm tannins. Riper than the Columbia Valley Cab. The length, intensity, and density of this wine are ridiculous. Damn, this is good.

“This [95% Cabernet, 5% Merlot] has a haunting scent of mocha and violets, with a Walla Walla background note of tomato skin. This has a savory palate, vinous, dark and juicy, with a hint of pyrazine that provides tension and electricity. A thrilling wine now, it should age beautifully.” – 94 Pts, Patrick Comiskey, Wine & Spirits

2020 Merlot “Estate Vineyard” MTA

$60 Retail : $51 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: Explosive on the nose with bright red fruits. Almost Jacques Pepin Watermelon Salad? (IFKYK, but look it up, and you’re welcome.) Purple flowers. Plum. Cherry chocolate – but expensive, 85% cacao. Mix of red and dark fruits. Gravel, green herbs, cola, tar, cedar, red flowers, violets, plum. On the nose, blue and black. So balanced. Just classic Merlot. Ripe and lush but still fresh. Medium+ acid, rich, complex, intense. Firm tannin. Best Merlot we’ve ever made, by far, and my favorite of this release.

“This wine club only bottling is really fantastic, showing good poise and richness from this slightly cooler vintage. Red bell pepper and rich dark fruits mark the palate alongside chocolate covered espresso bean. Freshly tilled soil accents complete this outstanding new bottling that is already nicely evolved.” – 93 Pts, Dr. Owen Bargreen

2019 Mourvèdre “Olsen Vineyard” MTA

$60 Retail : $51 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: Bright red fruits, berries, cherries jump out of the glass. Very fresh. Braised meat, rosemary, orange peel, black pepper, red and purple flowers, curry powder. Clove, dark earth, rock/stone. Wildly interesting nose. On the palate, medium-bodied and rich but still balanced. Seems more expansive than L’Idiot. Red fruit on palate, but also blue and black. Lots of florals. Smoked meat – Terry Black style. Long length. Very complex. Juicy on the palate. This is fantastic.

“Translucent in the glass, this offers a silky mouthfeel, and is loaded with rich red fruit flavors with an opulent texture and beautiful sense of balance. Showing no rough edges, this is truly one of the great wines of its kind in the state.” – 94 Pts, Dr. Owen Bargreen

We are proud to announce the release of our premier wines in the Gramercy portfolio: 2020 Syrah “John Lewis” Reserve and the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon “Reserve.” These are incredible wines – the best of the best in our cellar, intended for long-term cellaring or an extensive decant. To celebrate the release of the reserve wines, we are offering waived ground shipping for any purchases $400 or above for the next three weeks.

2020 Washington Harvest
The 2020 Washington State grape harvest was a story of two halves, each playing a crucial role in shaping the final character of a very good vintage.

Act I – A Cool Start and Budding Promise: Spring arrived on schedule, ushering in a moderately cool April with bud break for most varietals occurring around mid-month. This coincided with historical averages, setting the stage for a potentially balanced growing season. June, however, set the stage for the oncoming drama, with warmer-than-average days hinting at the heat wave lurking around the corner.

Act II – Wow, it’s Hot: Late July and early August brought the real fireworks. Record-breaking temperatures soared across Washington. This intense heat wave accelerated ripening. However, the moderate temperatures, especially the cooler nights, throughout the rest of the summer allowed the grapes to finish ripening gradually, preserving aromatic flavors and acidity.

In the Gramercy world, the 2020 vintage is fantastic, not only for John Lewis but for all of our wines.

– Greg Harrington

2020 Syrah “John Lewis” Reserve

We made the 2020 John Lewis Syrah from the best of our Syrah barrels. Like many past vintages, this is a single vineyard cuvée from the famed Les Collines Vineyard in the foothills of the Blue Mountains in Walla Walla. Specifically, from our favorite location, Block 46, lying in the middle of the slope, with perfect terroir.

The John Lewis Syrah is our idealized version of Syrah in Washington State. As we said after the very first vintage of John Lewis in 2006, we hope you enjoy drinking this wine as much as we enjoyed making it.

Jeb Dunnuck: 96+ Points
“The flagship Syrah [has] a great nose of ripe dark fruits, ground pepper, smoked meat, and underbrush. Structured, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, with ripe tannins, it’s a stunning example of Syrah from the Walla Walla Valley that will keep for 15+ years…Hats off to the team of Greg Harrington and Brandon Moss for another world class Syrah!”

Retail: $95 I MTA Club Price: $80.75
Purchase HERE

2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is spectacular. Almost the same as the 2019 blend, Phinny Hill comprises 65% of the wine, with Bacchus making up the remaining 35%. In recent vintages, Phinny Hill has provided monster fruit and seems to improve every year. The Phinny wines are dense and complex but have a lightness not often seen in Cabernet Sauvignon.

In 2020, Cabernet Sauvignon was the star, not needing support from other varieties. We absolutely love 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wines when possible.

International Wine Report: 95 Points
“Displaying…all those yummy Washington Cabernet aromas and flavors – think dark plum, crushed blackberries, cedary herbs, mocha powder, and touches of tangerine zest. Chalky tannins hit hard up front but settle down nicely with the elevated acidity and herbaceous, yet fruit-forward finish.”

Retail: $110 I MTA Club Price: $93.50

As autumn paints the landscape in warm hues and the crisp breeze beckons, we’re excited to embrace what is shaping up to be a magical vintage. Though this year’s harvest arrived a tad early, we brought in our final grapes yesterday, including Phinny Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, Thunderstone Grenache, and Olsen Carignan. We have loved processing our Syrah grapes, in particular, as they display impeccable ripeness and balance. Now that cooler weather blankets the valley, we’re taking a moment to savor the anticipation of what promises to be an extraordinary vintage.

Introducing the Fall 2023 Releases
Time to unveil the stars of our Fall 2023 release, featuring wines from the acclaimed 2019 and 2020 vintages.

First, the vibrant 2020 vintage is showcased with our 2020 Mourvèdre “L’Idiot du Village” which is an absolute marvel. Comprising 100% Mourvèdre grapes from Olsen Vineyard, it’s a rarity that stands confidently on its own.

Last year, we couldn’t stop raving about the 2019 vintage, and this year, we’re ecstatic to share more of these extraordinary wines with you. They exhibit remarkable freshness coupled with depth, intensity, and captivating aromatics.

Next, is our Washington Cabernet. The 2019 Columbia Valley Cabernet and the monumental Phinny Hill MTA are shining examples of the world-class farming at Phinny Hill and Sagemoor Vineyards.

Moving on to the 2019 Holy Roller Syrah MTA. It stands as one of our richest yet, showcasing all the classic Rocks aromatics in their full glory. Then, there’s the 2019 Walla Walla Syrah, co-fermented with 2% Viognier, embodying the greatness of the Walla Walla Valley and securing its place among the giants of the Syrah world.

We consider ourselves fortunate to do what we love—crafting food-friendly, delectable wines meant to be shared with you and your loved ones whenever you choose to savor them. Your unwavering support has made all of this possible, and we can’t wait to clink glasses with you at one of our parties or in our inviting tasting room soon.

Medium acid, medium-plus tannin. Fantastic long finish. Classic Mourvèdre and an excellent example of L’Idiot du Village.

“Year after year, Gramercy crafts some of the best Mourvèdre in the state…white pepper, anise and heady dark fruits all collide on the palate. Considering the challenges of the vintage, this is seriously good stuff that is already beautifully evolved.” – 93 Points, Owen Bargreen

Fall Release Wine Club Exclusive Wine

2019 Syrah “Holy Roller Vineyard” MTA

$60 Retail : $51 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: Very aromatic. Strawberry, raspberry, almost fruit cobbler, jolly rancher or red gummies (enhanced or not, your choice), green herbs, Moroccan spice – cumin, paprika, coriander, black pepper, grilled meats. Classic Rocks. Wild mountain flowers, possibly from the Viognier co-ferment. High acid and very fresh on the palate. Intense and complex. Dense and ripe. One of our ripest to date.

“…The palate is soft and seamless with a lovely mouthfeel, bright acidity and good sense of flavor density. A literal cornucopia of flavors greets you from spicy red peppercorns and allspice to dark currants, pipe tobacco, stony soils and soy sauce rubbed flank steak.” – 95 Points, Owen Bargreen

2019 Cabernet Sauvignon “Phinny Hill Vineyard” MTA

$60 Retail : $51 MTA Wine Club

Tasting Notes: There’s a reason we love Phinny Hill so much. Incredible Cabernet. Very serious but elegant and graceful. This is a monumental wine made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet usually needs a blending variety, but in 2019, the Phinny Hill fruit was perfection. Intense aromatics of classic old-world Cabernet smells. Red fruit, chocolate, pencil shavings, and herbs. Magic, pure and simple.

“Sweet tobacco aromatics combine with cardamom, creme de Violette and suggestions of freshly tilled soils on the nose. The palate is very inviting and plush with a smooth mouthfeel and excellent length.” – 94 Points, Owen Bargreen
