No, we haven't lost our minds. We're making a prediction: within 20 years, Grenache will be among the top 3 varietals in Washington. Grenache is good. Grenache works. Grenache particularly loves the Horse Heaven Hills. We were lucky enough to get grapes from Alder Ridge, which is quickly making a name for itself as the best Grenache vineyard in Washington.

We set out to make a wine in the tradition of the Southern Rhone Valley - reminiscent of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas or Vacqueyras. We blended the Grenache with 20% Syrah, a common ratio in the Rhone. This is a big wine, atypical for Gramercy, but Grenache stays balanced at higher alcohols, especially when blended with Minick Syrah for acidity. It's a dead ringer for a Southern Rhone wine. Aromas of stone, granite, mushroom with sweet red fruits.

First reviews will be online by mid-November 2009.

Washington Wine Report Feb/2010

"Writing about Gramercy Cellars recently I said "If you are looking for a bandwagon on which to jump, now would be the time." Less than a year later, I must amend that statement. The concept was right but the metaphor all wrong. This was not a passing bandwagon but rather a rocket ship on the launch pad."
