Our Philosophy

Just as it takes great ingredients to make an exceptional meal, a great wine begins with the best grapes. Master Sommelier Greg Harrington spent his career overseeing some of the most prestigious wine programs in the country. His goal was always the same - to find balanced wines with limited new oak influence that taste of a specific place. This philosophy continues at Gramercy Cellars. We believe that great wines share common traits - great vineyards, minimalist winemaking, time and patience.
To this end, we are developing two estate vineyards which will provide us with exceptional Syrah, Tempranillo and Bordeaux varietals in the coming years. Additionally, we partner with unique, exceptional growers who share our values, commitment to quality and dedication to sustainability. We feel that a long term relationship is essential, working with the same blocks in the same vineyards each vintage. Some of our partners include Les Collines, Pepper Bridge, and Forgotten Hills in Walla Walla, Portteus and Minick in the Columbia Valley and Phinny Hill in Horse Heaven Hills.
Gramercy's viticultural and winemaking philosophies are very simple - to select the best vineyards, harvest ripe - not over-ripe - grapes, intervene minimally in the winemaking process, and not to smother the wine with a lot of new oak. We believe that too many wines have excessive alcohol and new oak, are overly fruity and taste like they could be from anywhere. We created Gramercy Cellars to make different wines that display balance, fruit and earthiness, and minimal new oak flavors. Our wines may require time to develop and open, but reward patience. This is our passion. At Gramercy Cellars, we seek to produce wines that complement food, provide great pleasure and stand out uniquely in Washington.
